Stora Enso Fine Paper, Veitsiluoto PM3, Kemi, Finland
Pöyry provided process, mechanical, piping and HVAC engineering, including assistance in installation supervision as well as commissioning and start-up, for the complete rebuild of woodfree paper machine PM3. The rebuilt machine was started up on December 5, 2003.
The rebuild included the complete paper machine, a new disc save-all, new broke treatment system, new refiners for short- and long-fibre pulp, and a new roll press for short-fibre pulp and new DCS, QCS and MCS systems.
The project schedule was very tight. The time from the signing of the engineering contract to start-up was only 13 months. The installation shut-down lasted 7 weeks. PM2, which is situated in the same paper machine hall with PM3, was kept running throughout the shut-down of PM3. The project did not cause more breaks than normal.
